The Bible describes two kinds of people: 1. Those who are like a TREE. 2. Those who are like SHRUBS. Let’s look at some verses that describes these two.
“They are strong, like a TREE planted by a river. The tree produces fruit in season, and its leaves don’t die. Everything they do will succeed.” Psalm 1:3 NCV
Choose to be like a TREE. I want people to read this verse when they are describing you. But there are some things that you’ll need to DO in order to be planted like a tree. Can I share these things with you? The answer is found in these 3 verses:
“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.” Psalm 1:1-2
“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is the Lord.” Jeremiah 17:7
Let me break it down for you. If you want to be planted like a TREE:
1. Don’t follow wrong leadership – “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly…”
2. Don’t connect with the wrong people – “Nor stands in the path of sinners…”
3. Don’t be a hater – “Nor sits in the seat of the scornful…”
4. Delight in God’s Word – “But his delight is in the law of the Lord…”
5. Meditate in God’s Word – “And in His law he meditates day and night.”
6. Trust in the Lord – “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord…”
7. Don’t lose hope – “…and whose hope is the Lord.”
Follow these 7 simple steps and you will be planted like a tree. If not, you’ll be more like a SHRUB.
“The Lord says: Cursed is the man who puts his trust in mortal man and turns his heart away from GOD. He is like a stunted SHRUB in the desert, with no hope for the future; he lives on the salt-encrusted plains in the barren wilderness; good times pass him by forever.” Jeremiah 17:5-6 TLB
Don’t be a SHRUB. A shrub has no roots. You’ll be like debris going wherever the wind blows.
“But evil people are not like this at all; they are like straw that the wind blows away.” Psalm 1:4 GNT
Be like a TREE! A tree has roots that soak up water from the nearby river and produce luscious fruit. Likewise, soak up God’s Word, and you will succeed in everything you do.
