“Beauty Outside My Window”by Kaize Adams, Ph.D.

Uncategorized, Young Brotha

COVID-19 has led to a lot of us working from home. Some of us are still in our pandemic bubble in a lot of ways. Thankfully things are getting better, but many people including myself are taking precautions and are still limiting where they go and whom they are around.  Working from home has its pros and cons. You don’t have to commute to work and tackle traffic. For some, there is a lot of peace and quiet at home to do your work, and you have all the amenities of home around you daily. The cons are more isolation from coworkers, a risk of overworking, and sometimes distractions at home if you have children or pets. With the pros and cons we have adapted to a new way of working, communicating, and socializing over the past year and half. Will things get back to what we considered normal pre-pandemic? Maybe, but I think things in a lot of ways will be forever changed.

Since I work remotely, I am at home a lot working away on various things. I must admit that I need to work on making more time for self-care. Sometimes I’m so busy serving others, I neglect time to serve myself. The other day I went outside to take out the trash and I looked at the side of my home and realized that a rose bush that was planted there had bloomed and there were all these beautiful multi-colored roses. It surprised me because I didn’t realize the rose bush had grown so large and so many roses had bloomed. The funny thing is, the rose bush sits in the middle of the two windows of my office and I did not even look out to see all of the beauty outside of my window.

Seeing the roses reminded me of Romans 1:20 “For since the creation of the world GOD’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” It was refreshing to see, because I completely overlooked it. It also surprised me because I go outside regularly to walk around and I would just walk by the bush and not even notice it, but those blooms caught my attention and made me realize that by being present, observant, and patient I truly could notice more about the world around me. It reminded me that taking a pause is good. It’s healthy. It’s necessary. Even God rested took a break after creating the world (Genesis 2:2).

I’m thankful for the moment when I realized the beauty outside my window. It helped me to reset and reflect on the importance of life and God’s nature and beauty and how he is always in control of everything. Also by pausing, reflecting on his creation, his glory, and the beauty that only he can create are priceless and precious.  It made me realize that GOD can make anything that seems dormant blossom into something beautiful.

So when you feel nothing is going on, or can’t be improved, or you feel overlooked. Trust GOD, ask him to anoint you and bless your life and your situation and he can transform completely transform your life, your situation, your health, your family, your finances, your career, whatever it may be into something beautifully unexpected. God is omnipotent. He is unlimited power and is able to anything. It’s just a matter of us taking the time to remember that. If we try to do everything ourselves, how can we allow GOD to work? How can we exercise our faith? We must allow GOD to do what he promised. Let go. Just surrender and watch GOD show out! He will amaze you. So take some to time to recognize the beauty.
